I usually wouldn’t include a rodeo outing in my journal, but this year is the exception. It is an exception because my granddaughter Brooklyn rode in the Mutton Bustin 2015 event of the 73rd Annual Fiesta Days Rodeo. I thought she might “chicken” out at the last minute, but she didn’t. I was so proud and excited to watch her jump on that sheep in front of all those spectators and take it for a ride… she hung on for dear life and earned a pretty good score. She didn’t win, but made a good showing for herself and reminded me of when my son Wesley participated in the event in 1998.
While watching Brooklyn getting ready to ride, I reminisced about the time Wesley took part in this event on won it. His trophy was over three feet high and almost overshadowed him. I remember when he brought it home how it caused a little stir; from one son in particular.
It played out kind of like this. James had earned an impressive number of baseball trophies and medallions, karate trophies, and various athletic certificates. He had strategically placed these hard-won sports memorabilia all around his top bunk bed area for all to see. However, when Wesley brought home that huge trophy from the Mutton Bustin’ contest, it piqued a jealous streak in James. After about two or three days, James packed up all his awards in boxes and put them away… Wesley’s big trophy was more than James could take! We laughed for days over this melodrama and still do, from time-to-time, when the subject comes up.
In addition, I have included a short video clip of some rodeo highlights with Brooklyn’s ride at the end of it. I hope you enjoy watching her as much as I do… I chuckle every time I view it!
