It wasn’t a horse race, but the 2017 Fiesta Days Rodeo Superfecta. It was a superfecta in the sense that four of my grandsons were scheduled to ride sheep in the Mutton Bustin event at the 75th Fiesta Days annual rodeo. Nash, Sawyer, and Cameron were scheduled to ride on Thursday evening and Jack on Saturday evening. The bet was if any one of them would back-out at the last moment or would they all go through with it. I’m happy to report that all four completed their rides in good form in front of over a thousand plus spectators… It was a proud moment for myself and for Grandma Jill!
As I was waiting for the event, I reminisced about the time my son Wesley participated in this event and won it in 1998. I also thought about when his daughter Brooklyn rode in 2015 and made a good showing for herself and the courage she must have had to do that at her young age.
All-in-all, it was a memorable and satisfying 24th of July this year.
In addition, I have included a short video clip of some rodeo highlights with Brooklyn’s ride at the end of it. Hope you enjoy watching her as much as I do… I chuckle every time I view it.
