5th Grade State Core for Literacy
8/30/2010 – Policies, procedures, and expectations for Mr. C’s literacy class this year. Introduction to the curriculum to include monthly, quarterly, and yearly projects.
8/31/2010 – Give pre-assessment comprehension test. Complete oral reading assessment. Pass-off “Sight Words-K” and turn in.
9/01-03/2010 – Question of the week… How do we meet the challenges of learning?
DOL/Penmanship: Complete and correct DOL worksheet and practice penmanship.
Comprehension: Objective(s); 1. Identify the main character and plot of the story. 2. Use prior knowledge to understand story characters and events. pp. 18-19. *Complete “Plot and Character” worksheet and correct, PB3.
Vocabulary: Teach vocabulary words: acquainted, essential, expanded, guaranteed, procedures, reputation, procedures, reputation, and worshipped.
Fluency: Model tone of voice from a selected reading.
Spelling: Teach short vowel vccv, vcv and introduce spelling words; distance, method, anger, problem, butter, petals, enjoy, perhaps, figure, channel, admire, comedy, husband, tissue, mustard, shuttle, advance, drummer, regular, and denim. *SPB p.1
Writing/Grammar: Introduction to writing module for the year to include my expectations and a mini-lesson on the four kinds of sentences. *GT1.
